Common diseases and pests of Adiantum and their control methods

Maidenhair Fern Pests – Scale Insects

symptom

Scale insects are common pests of the maidenhair fern and are most likely to occur in warm, humid and poorly ventilated conditions. When the disease occurs, white bumps can be seen on the leaves, and the leaves will droop and wither. In severe cases, the entire leaves will turn brown.

Prevention and treatment methods

The maidenhair fern has many leaves, and it is difficult to check the scale insects on each leaf, so when scale insects are found, just cut off the leaves directly.

For drug control, you can apply insecticide (available at flower and bird markets) into the soil around the roots, usually 2 to 5 grams per 10 to 15 cm. Alternatively, when the disease occurs, spray a 1000-fold solution of omethoate emulsifiable concentrate, once every 5 to 7 days, and spray 2 to 3 times in a row.

Maidenhair fern disease - leaf blight

symptom

During the maintenance process, the leaves often turn yellow and have burnt edges. Excluding the cause of improper maintenance, the leaves may be infected by bacteria, causing the leaves to turn yellow. When the disease occurs, yellow-brown spots appear on the leaves. As the spots expand, they gradually merge and the leaves wilt.

Prevention and treatment methods

Strengthen maintenance. If yellow-brown spots appear on the leaves, you need to lower the air humidity appropriately and pay attention to ventilation and light transmission.

When the disease occurs, spray the medicine in time. Bordeaux mixture and carbendazim wettable powder can be used. Spray once every 10 days. Spray 2 to 3 times in a row to improve the condition.
