How to plant gray manglietia

Growth environment

In terms of light, the gray magnolia is slightly shade-tolerant when it is young, but it prefers shady places after it reaches middle age. Environmentally, they prefer a warm and humid environment. In terms of soil, it is more suitable for places with fertile, loose soil and deep soil layer, especially sandy loam or light clay. It grows poorly in places with dry and poor soil, and is not suitable for places with stagnant water. Generally, an average temperature above 18 degrees is more suitable.

Seed Collection

When collecting seeds, we usually choose some 13 to 15 year old and better quality plants as mother trees. When the fruit is ripe in September and October and the color changes from light green to dark green, the pods will crack slightly and you can collect the seeds. Then spread the seeds out in a cool, ventilated place. When the pods have cracked, gently knock out the seeds, rub off the seed skin with fine sand, and place them in moist fine sand for later use.

Seedling cultivation

We recommend live broadcasting. Alternatively, you can sow the seeds in February or March, cover them with 1 to 1.5 cm of soil after sowing, and add straw to keep them moist. After about 20 days, sprouts will appear from the seeds, and after about 30 days, true leaves will grow out. At this time, they can be placed in containers for cultivation, but remember to water and fertilize them in time. When they reach 30 centimeters, if there is more rain, they can be moved outside around May or June.
