1. Cutting timeThe loblolly tree can be propagated by cuttings, which are usually done in the warm season, around May and June. The temperature during this period is mild, which is very suitable for cuttings to take root. Cuttings can also be taken at other times, but the survival rate will be slightly lower. Cuttings must be shielded from the scorching sun in summer, and can be taken in a greenhouse in winter. As long as the temperature is suitable, the cuttings will survive and take root. 2. Cut branchesChoose healthy and strong plants, cut the top branches from them, preferably thick and full ones, make sure there are two stem segments, and the cuttings should be about 8-10 cm. After cutting, because there is water on the cut, it cannot be directly used for cuttings. It needs to be dried slightly before cutting. 3. Prepare sand bedThe sand bed used for cuttings should be prepared in advance, mainly with yellow sand or perlite as the medium. You can also choose sandy loam with good drainage, and be sure to ensure permeability. 4. Take cuttingsAfter the sand bed is prepared, you can start cuttings. Insert the stick tree cuttings into it. It doesn’t need to be too deep. The cuttings will take root after two or three weeks. After the roots have taken shape, you can prepare the flower pots and substrate, then transplant them into the flower pots and carry out the later cultivation and maintenance management. |
