What is the best time to plant carrots and how long is their growth cycle?

Carrot planting time

The best time to sow carrots is from early July to late August every year, but due to market demand in recent years, they can also be sown in spring, generally from late February to early March. Of course, the planting time is not exactly the same in different regions, and some areas will also sow in June.

Carrot growth cycle

The growth cycle of carrots is about two years. Its growth period is divided into two periods: the vegetative growth period and the reproductive growth period. The vegetative growth period is further divided into the germination period, the seedling period, the leaf growth period and the fleshy root growth period. The reproductive growth period goes through the stage of low temperature in winter and warm spring, and it will bolt, bloom and bear fruit in the summer of the second year.

Methods and steps for growing carrots

1. Site selection and land preparation

Before planting carrots, we must first prepare soil suitable for its growth. The soil should be loose and fertile, with good drainage. We should pay attention to removing debris and weeds as much as possible, level the ground, sprinkle base fertilizer, and then dry it naturally in the sun for a few days before sowing.

2. Sowing and fertilizing

Carrots are mainly sown by broadcasting. The first step is to dig trenches in the land, and then evenly broadcast the seeds in rows in the trenches. Before sowing, you can cover the surface with a layer of corn stalks. The best time for sowing is on a sunny day just after the rain, which is conducive to seed germination.
