How to propagate plumeria

When propagating frangipani, you can use the relatively simple cutting method. Grafting is also an option. The fruit contains seeds that can be sown, but the color of frangipani grown from seeds may vary. The frangipani branches propagated by cuttings will sprout new buds in 4 weeks.

Plumeria breeding time

The best seasons for frangipani reproduction are spring and autumn, specifically from March to May in spring and around September in autumn. Certain conditions need to be met in winter and summer for reproduction.

How to propagate plumeria

Plumeria cutting propagation

Choose strong and mature frangipani branches with a length of 20 cm. Wait until the wounds are dry in the shade before cutting them. The medium for cuttings can be clean sandy soil. Spray water after cuttings and keep the soil moist. Generally, it will take about 30 days for the branches to take root. After taking root, you can transplant them. Shade treatment should be carried out in the early stage, and then they can grow normally.

Plumeria sowing propagation

After the frangipani fruits are ripe, you can collect the seeds and sow them on the sand bed, keeping the germination temperature between 18 and 24 degrees. Cover with a layer of soil when sowing, and water appropriately to keep the soil moist. Germination is relatively fast, and the seedlings can be transplanted when they grow to 15 cm.

Notes on the reproduction of plumeria

Frangipani grows relatively fast, so it needs to be repotted once a year, preferably in spring. Replace the potting soil with new one and add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer so that the plant will grow more luxuriantly.
