Diseases and pests of Bauhinia occidentalis and their control measures

Diseases of Bauhinia

There are two main diseases of Bauhinia bracteatum, one is angular leaf spot and the other is sooty mold.

When Bauhinia is infected with angular leaf spot disease, some polygonal spots will appear on its leaves. In the later stages, the leaves of Bauhinia will gradually wither and fall off, affecting its growth. When Bauhinia is infected with sooty mold, many oily coal-like substances will appear on its leaves, and its branches will also turn black. When the disease is serious, it will affect the flowering of Bauhinia and even gradually lead to the death of Bauhinia.

Disease prevention and control methods of Bauhinia

In order to prevent Bauhinia from getting sick, we need to regularly remove the fallen leaves of Bauhinia in autumn every year, because the fallen leaves are likely to carry pathogens. On the other hand, the accumulation and fermentation of fallen leaves can easily lead to bacterial infection. It is best to clean up and burn the large amount of fallen leaves of Bauhinia.

If the Bauhinia has been infected with a disease, we must promptly remove the diseased branches and leaves, and then spray relevant pesticides in a timely manner.

Pests of Bauhinia

The pests of Bauhinia include the large moth, the brown-edged green moth, and aphids. These pests will eat the tender leaves, roots and buds of Bauhinia, which not only affects its appearance but also its growth. Therefore, when we are caring for Bauhinia on a daily basis, we must pay attention to whether there are pests around the plants.

How to control Bauhinia pests

In autumn and winter, we can observe whether there are insect eggs on the Bauhinia trees. If there are overwintering insect eggs, we must remove them in time and consciously retain some natural enemies of pests, such as parasitic wasps and parasitic flies. The eggs of the brown-edged green moth usually overwinter in the soil, so we need to dig up the soil around the Bauhinia bracteata to see if there are any eggs. If we find that Bauhinia has insect infestation, we can use pesticides to kill the pests.
