How to divide a lotus leaf

How to divide a lotus leaf

Time for division of lotus

The lotus belongs to the Nymphaeaceae family. It is a perennial floating-leaf herb. The species of lotus include Indian lotus, water lotus, golden anemone, and white water lily.

The division propagation of Asplenium can be carried out in spring when the temperature rises and before the new buds sprout, combined with repotting. It is usually carried out in early spring in February or March after the soil thaws.

Method of propagation of lotus by division

When the lotus grows to a certain stage, a new leaf will grow under the leaf. When you see it growing a new leaf, you can immediately divide the plant and separate the new leaf from the plant. You can directly cut off the new leaf and plant it in another container. After about 4-5 days, you can see roots growing under the new leaf.

Steps for dividing a lotus leaf

The division propagation of Aglaonema is not limited to time or season and can be carried out at any time, and the survival rate of division propagation is relatively high.

1. When the leaves of the lotus are flattened, they can be divided. A section of the petiole can be retained for the new leaves, so that roots and sprouts will grow on the petiole.

2. If you are more conservative, you can wait until the leaves of the water lily grow a little bigger and have root tissue, and then cut them off. It is best to let the separated leaves grow on their own in the original pot, because in the original pot, the new leaves do not need to adapt. You can move them to other pots after they have taken root.

I just bought a lotus leaf division

The newly bought lotus can be watered thoroughly once after division. At this time, the roots are very fragile and the absorption of water is reduced. It takes 20-30 days of care to recover and sprout new roots. Therefore, watering should be restrained within one month after division to avoid root rot.

The leaves of the water lily are still growing, so in order to maintain the water balance of the leaves, you can spray water on the leaves every day. Spray more when the temperature is high, and spray less or not at all when the temperature is low. Do not apply fertilizer during this period. After division, the sunlight should not be too strong, and it is best to keep it in a shade shed.
