Division of Allium orchid: Remove the soil from the pot

Take the onion orchid out of the pot, shake off the excess soil on the roots, spread out the tangled roots with your hands, and cut off the old leaves and diseased roots to help it survive after division.

Use a sharp knife (or your bare hands) to separate the plants, generally into 2 to 3 clumps, to ensure that each plant has sufficient roots.

Division of Allium orchid: potting and disinfection

Disinfection is necessary after dividing the cluster to ensure the health of the mother plant. Soak the roots of the divided seedlings in a solution of thiophanate-methyl for 5 minutes, then plant them in pots. After planting, irrigate the roots with thiophanate-methyl.

If conditions permit and you don't mind the trouble, try to disinfect all the tools that come into contact with the plant before planting. The soil can be exposed to the sun for a period of time to ensure a sterile environment so that the Allium orchid can grow healthily.

Allium division: care

After the seedlings are divided and potted, water them thoroughly. After division, the roots are severely damaged and have a very weak ability to absorb water. It will take about 3 to 4 weeks to recover, so watering should be controlled during this period to avoid root rot. Resume watering after new roots sprout.

The transpiration of the leaves has not weakened after the Allium orchid is divided. In order to keep the leaves green, I need to spray the leaves 1 to 3 times a day. Spray more when the temperature is high and spray less or not at all when the temperature is low.

Do not apply fertilizer after division. Be careful not to expose the plant to too strong sunlight and place it in semi-shade.
