Gardenia cultivation methods and precautions

Gardenia cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

To grow gardenia, you need a well-breathable, slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5-6. You can use leaf mold or peat soil mixed with half garden soil as its culture soil.

2. Lighting

Adequate sunlight is a necessary condition for the growth of gardenia. If it does not see light for a long time, its branches will be very thin and it will be difficult to bloom. Except for the need for appropriate shade in summer, it is fine to keep it directly in the sun in other seasons.

3. Water

Gardenia prefers relatively humid growing conditions, and the soil in the pot should be kept moist except in winter. When the air is dry in summer, you can use a spray bottle to spray some water on its leaves, or place a basin of clean water next to its flowerpot to increase the air humidity.

4. Temperature

Gardenia is suitable for growing in an environment of 20-28℃. When the temperature is too high in summer, certain measures must be taken to cool it down. In winter, it should be maintained at 5-12℃. It cannot be too low, otherwise it will be frozen, and it cannot be too high, otherwise it will break its dormancy.

5. Notes

1. Acidic soil. When watering, you can add one or two drops of vinegar to the water. This can lower the pH value of the soil and make the gardenia grow better.

2. Apply fertilizer at the right time. Gardenia likes fertilizer more, so it needs to be fertilized during its growing period, with thin fertilizers applied frequently. Apply some phosphorus fertilizer before flowering to help it bloom better.
