How to breed Mingjing

How to breed Mingjing

1. Side bud cuttings

In the spring, you can wait for the Mingjing to grow side plants, cut off the already grown side plants and use them for cuttings, and the success rate is very high. You can also cut it off in time when the bulge in the center of the leaf disk is about to grow a flower stalk to promote the growth of side plants. If you can't wait for side plants to grow, you can select the leaf disk at the top of the mirror-like plant and put it in a pot for cuttings. The remaining mirror remains in the soil. Place the cut parts in a well-ventilated location and dry the wounds in the sun, which usually takes one to two days. Wait until it is dry and then put it into the prepared pot. If you take good care of it, many small buds will grow. When these small buds grow a little bigger, you can take them down for cuttings. Insert the lower part into moist sand or vermiculite and keep it slightly moist, which will make it very easy to take root.

2. Sowing

The method of seed propagation is also applicable to Mingjing, but the seed propagation of Mingjing should be done when Mingjing is in bloom. The flowers bloom in the center of the Mingjing leaf disk, and a cylindrical Artemisia will appear in the middle. It will eventually develop into a huge terminal panicle, up to 0.6 meters high. It blooms small yellow flowers and produces seeds after flowering. At this time, be sure to collect the seeds, as the entire mother plant will die after the seeds are produced. You can wait until next spring to sow the seeds. The seeds will germinate slowly, so you just need to be very patient at this time.

The mirror plant has a beautiful shape and is easy to care for. But it is worth noting that the place of origin of Mingjing is hot and dry in summer without rain, and warm and humid in winter. Therefore, Mingjing likes a sunny, cool and dry environment. It is resistant to drought and semi-shade but afraid of waterlogging. Therefore, you should wait until the pot is dry before watering, otherwise it will cause root rot. Spring and autumn are the growing seasons for Mingjing, and it needs to be exposed to more sunlight during the growing season. If the plant does not get enough sunlight, it will grow too tall, the distance between the leaves will become larger, the plant will be out of shape, the leaves will not be disc-shaped, and its ornamental value will decrease.
