When is the best time to plant citrus seedlings?

Citrus seedlings are generally best planted in spring and autumn. Spring planting should be carried out after the soil thaws and before the seedlings sprout, and autumn planting should be carried out after the citrus seedlings fall their leaves and before the soil freezes. Citrus seedlings should be planted as soon as possible after being dug out, otherwise they should be transplanted and taken out as soon as they are planted.

What are the precautions for planting citrus seedlings?

1. Selection of seedlings

Select healthy seedlings with stems 0.8-1.0 cm thick, 2-3 branches, and dark green leaves. When taking seedlings, first water the seedbed appropriately, dig the seedlings with soil, requiring the fine roots to be intact, and apply mud in time. Then wrap them into bundles of 50 with straw. It is best to transport them in the morning and evening, and prevent them from wind and sun. After transporting them back, they should be planted in the afternoon.

2. Seedling treatment

Treatment methods include removing bent-root seedlings, unqualified seedlings, cutting off excessively long roots and injured roots. Seedlings transported over long distances should be properly wrapped to avoid collisions, and the roots of the seedlings should be soaked for more than 2 hours before planting.

3. Planting depth

When planting, do not plant too deep or too shallow. Generally, the interface should be 3 cm to 5 cm above the ground. Do not plant on large pieces of clay to avoid obstruction of the root system.

4. Fertilization management

For newly planted citrus seedlings, it is necessary to apply sufficient organic fertilizer , thoroughly improve the soil and lay a good foundation to ensure two croppings next spring. While applying sufficient base fertilizer, apply 5-10 kg of biological organic fertilizer to each plant at the bottom of the planting pit and mix it with the soil to form a funnel-shaped layout.

5. Remedial measures

After transplanting citrus seedlings, if they grow abnormally, you can first check the root growth. If they lack vitality, you should promptly water the roots with rooting liquid. Citrus seedlings watered with rooting liquid take root quickly, produce a large amount of roots, grow well, have a high survival rate, and germinate quickly.
