How to take cuttings of woodruff

How to take cuttings of woodruff

1. Time for cuttings

The time for cuttings is generally chosen in early December, and the best-developed, sturdy and hard branches are selected. However, for new branches, it is generally carried out in June and July. However, if the temperature can be controlled well by humans, cuttings can be taken all year round.

2. Cutting method

Branch Selection

Select new branches or mature and healthy old branches, and cut a 12 cm to 15 cm length from the middle part of the branch. There should be three or four buds and two leaves on the branch. The other leaves can be removed.

disinfect

For the selected branches, the cut surface must be disinfected first, and then dipped in some wood ash to prevent rot. After treatment, they need to be inserted immediately to prevent the branches from wilting.

Temperature control

Insert the branches that need to be cut into the soil two-thirds of the way and place them in a cool place. The temperature needs to be controlled between 20 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, which is conducive to rooting. If the temperature is too low, rooting will be very slow. If the temperature is too high, the cut ends of the cuttings will rot. Therefore, it is generally necessary to control the temperature manually.

Moisturizing

After cuttings, you also need to pay attention to ensure the moisture of the culture soil. You need to spray water once or twice a day. It should not be too dry or too wet. In addition, attention must be paid to the good ventilation of the environment. Under normal circumstances, it will take one and a half months for the seeds to take root and sprout, and then they can be transplanted.

3. Maintenance after cutting

The osmanthus particularly likes a warm climate. The environment must have plenty of sunlight and humid air. It can withstand severe cold and semi-shady climatic conditions, but it cannot be flooded. It is not demanding on soil, but grows best and fastest in deep, fertile and well-drained soil.
