Maintenance methods and precautions for small-leaf red sandalwood bonsai

Maintenance methods

Temperature and light

Dalbergia small-leaf is a sun-loving plant and cannot tolerate low temperatures. The suitable growth temperature is between 20-30℃. It is generally prone to frost damage when the temperature is below 3℃. Therefore, the small-leaf red sandalwood potted plant is suitable to be placed on a sunny balcony or in a sunny place to ensure sufficient light.

soil

Dalbergia microphylla has a well-developed root system and nodules, can fix nitrogen, and is not very demanding on the soil.

Watering

Dalbergia small-leaf is a tropical plant that is not drought-tolerant and has high requirements for water. It usually needs to be watered every two or three days. Watering should not be done at noon, otherwise it will easily cause water evaporation of the small-leaf red sandalwood plant under high temperature, which will cause the plant to wither and die in the long run. When watering, you must water thoroughly, not just wet the soil surface. You can spray water on the leaves frequently.

Fertilization

It is not necessary to fertilize the small-leaf red sandalwood potted plants frequently. Generally, you can drip plant nutrient solution into the water and mix it evenly every 1-2 months, and then directly pour it into the soil.

Precautions

Fixed placement

The small-leaf red sandalwood bonsai has the ability to adapt to the environment. Once it gets used to the surrounding growth environment, it should not be moved frequently to avoid increasing the growth burden on the small-leaf red sandalwood bonsai.

Pest control

The seedlings and young trees of small-leaf red sandalwood bonsai are often prone to two common diseases, anthracnose and black mole. They can be controlled by spraying 1:100 Bordeaux mixture or 1000 times diluted 50% carbendazim. As for insect pests, there are leaf-eating pests such as golden flower bugs and beetles, which can be killed by spraying dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane.
