Oranges' growing environment and local conditions

Orange growth environment and conditions

Oranges are highly adaptable to soil and can grow on purple soil, red-yellow soil, and sandy beaches, but they are best planted in loose, fertile soil with a good structure and good drainage, and an organic matter content of 2% to 3%. They are distributed in both the north and south of China.

Orange growing conditions

Oranges are relatively shade-tolerant, but if you want to improve their quality, they need sufficient sunlight. Generally, they grow well in areas with 1200 to 2200 hours of sunshine per year. The fruit has a high sugar content and a low acid content, but if the sunlight is very strong in the summer, they need shade.

Orange growth temperature

The suitable temperature for orange growth and development is 12.5-37 degrees. The flower bud differentiation in autumn requires a daytime temperature of 20 degrees and a nighttime temperature of 10 degrees. It is not cold-resistant and the temperature in winter must not be lower than 0 degrees.

The growth process of oranges

The growth process of oranges is divided into six main periods: seedling stage, growth period, flowering period, fruit drop period, fruit expansion period and maturity period. Generally, the fruits mature from late July to early August and can be put on the market after that.

Orange planting time and method

Orange trees are usually planted from February to March or from September to November. Choose plump, disease-free seeds, or take out the seeds from the fruit, rinse them with clean water, thoroughly remove the pulp, and then soak them in clean water, changing the water once a day and taking them out after about 7 days.

Plant the selected orange seeds in loose, fertile soil. Pay attention to the spacing between them, and do not plant them too densely. The seeds should be about 1.2 cm away from the soil surface. Keep the soil moist in time. Apply a small amount of fertilizer every 10 days after germination.
