How and when to plant peppers

Time and month for planting peppers

Bell peppers are generally planted in March and April. Planting should be advanced or delayed depending on the environment of the planting area. The most suitable temperature for bell pepper growth is between 15 and 30 degrees. Only at the optimal growth temperature will the seeds of bell peppers germinate into small sprouts.

When to plant peppers in spring

When planting peppers in spring, greenhouse cultivation generally requires growing large seedlings. Most cold areas in the north are planted from early February to early March. The seedbed should be selected with high terrain, well-drained and fertile land that has not been planted with Solanaceae crops.

When to plant peppers in summer

When planting green peppers in summer, they need to be germinated. They will not germinate if the temperature is above 25℃ or below 8℃. First, soak the seeds in water for 12 hours in advance, then take them out and place them on a wet paper towel, seal them and place them in a cool place. Start sowing when 80% of the seeds turn white.

When to plant peppers in autumn

The time for planting peppers in autumn is from mid-September to mid-October. The greenhouse should be covered with film at night to keep warm. Pay attention to ventilation during the day and control the temperature at 25-30℃, not exceeding 32 degrees around noon. When the night temperature in the greenhouse is lower than 10℃, a small shed needs to be added.

When to plant peppers in winter

When planting peppers in winter, as the outside temperature continues to drop, you should also cover the shed with straw thatch to keep it warm. On rainy or snowy days, you should also remove the straw thatch to let in light every day. After November, as the outside temperature gradually drops, the soil needs to be kept dry.

Pepper planting methods and steps

The germination temperature of pepper seeds is 15-30 degrees, and it is most suitable to be planted at about 25 degrees. The optimum temperature during the growth period is 27-28 degrees during the day and 18-20 degrees at night. The ground temperature is 17-26 degrees. The requirements for the length and intensity of light are not strict. As long as the temperature is suitable, it can be cultivated all year round.

1. First, spread well-rotted organic fertilizer on the land where peppers are to be planted, then turn it over, clean up stones and other garbage, and make ridges and prepare for later use.

2. Choose disease-free, plump seeds, soak them in warm water for 2 hours in advance, then take them out, rinse them with clean water, put them in cotton cloth, provide a temperature between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius, they will germinate after 24 hours, and you can sow them at this time.

3. Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil, not too densely. Keep a distance of 2 to 3 cm between the seeds. Cover them with about 0.8 cm thick fine sand. Then water them to keep the soil moist.

4. After the pepper seedlings grow two true leaves, they can be transplanted. The plant spacing ranges from 80 to 100 cm, depending on the variety. When transplanting the seedlings, you can water them thoroughly once and then manage them normally.
