Can sweet potatoes be planted all year round? Which month is the best to plant sweet potatoes?

The total area of sweet potato cultivation in my country also ranks first in the world. The main producing areas are Sixian, Anhui, Lulong, Hebei, Liancheng, Fujian, Kaifeng, Dengzhou, Tanghe Tongzhaipu, Shandong Sishui, and Nanchong, Sichuan.

Sweet potato planting time

Sweet potatoes are divided into five types according to the season: spring potatoes, summer potatoes, autumn potatoes, winter potatoes and four-season potatoes. The planting time of each type is different. Spring potatoes are suitable for planting from mid-April to late May, summer potatoes are suitable for planting from early June to mid-July, autumn potatoes are suitable for planting from early July to early August, winter potatoes are suitable for planting in November of the same year, and four-season potatoes are varieties that can be planted all year round.

Sweet potato growth temperature

Sweet potatoes like warmth but are afraid of cold. They will not take root when the ground temperature is around 10 degrees. They can take root in one day at 27 to 30 degrees. When the temperature is above 30 degrees, the stems and leaves grow fast. However, the tubers expand slowly. When the temperature is above 38 degrees, the respiration consumption is high and the stems and leaves grow slowly. When the temperature is below 20 degrees, the stems and leaves also grow fast and stop growing at 15 degrees. If the temperature is below 10 degrees for too long, the stems and leaves will wither. A larger temperature difference between day and night is conducive to the expansion of tubers and the accumulation of nutrients.

Sweet potato growth cycle

The growth cycle of spring potatoes is 160 to 200 days, and that of summer potatoes is 110 to 120 days. Based on the growth characteristics in the field and the relationship between climatic conditions, they are roughly divided into three growth periods, early, middle and late. The growth cycle of each time period is different.
