Cotton growing conditions and characteristics

Cotton growing conditions and characteristics

Cotton growing conditions

Cotton is more suitable to grow under sufficient light conditions. The plant growth and development requires sufficient water and nutrients, which are obtained from the soil through the root system, so the soil also requires looseness. The main producing areas are the Jianghan Plain, southern Xinjiang cotton area and other places.

The most suitable growth temperature for cotton budding is 25-30℃. Only when the temperature is suitable, the branches and leaves will grow fast and the buds will form quickly. Cotton is not cold-resistant and can withstand temperatures as low as 10℃.

Cotton Growth Period and Process

Cotton mostly grows in places with flat terrain and plenty of sunshine. The plants are mostly planted in spring and harvested in autumn. The growing season is in spring and summer, and the growth period is about 130 days.

The growth process of cotton is generally divided into five stages: the emergence stage, seedling stage, bud stage, fruiting stage, and boll stage. Seedlings will emerge about half a month after sowing.

Cotton Planting Process and Methods

1. Choose varieties: First, choose suitable cotton varieties according to soil fertility. It is best to choose those with strong disease resistance and good yield.

2. Seed treatment: Dry the seeds 15 days before sowing. Spread the cotton seeds on dry ground and dry them for 3-5 days to break the dormancy period of the seeds.

3. Sowing: Sprinkle the seeds evenly on the soil, then cover with soil and water. Be careful to avoid drying the seeds on cement floors or asphalt roads.
