When is the best time to bag the gourd?

The role of gourd bagging

It is pesticide-free and less polluting. It can increase the weight of single vegetable fruits by about 20% and advance the maturity period by 2-3 days. Its commercial quality is improved, and the fruits grown in fruit bags of uniform size are like handicrafts with uniform size and specifications. It has an obvious fresh-keeping effect and can avoid damage during transportation.

Gourd bagging time

The best time to bag the gourd is when the young gourd has just set and the petals have wilted and can be picked, usually on the second or third day after pollination. If you bag too early, the flowers cannot be picked, and if you bag too late, the bacteria may invade people. Before bagging, wilted flowers should be removed. The best time to bag in the open field is on a sunny morning after the dew has dried up, and in the greenhouse at 8-9 am.

Gourd bagging method

When bagging, try to keep the young fruit hanging in the bag and do not tie it too tightly, otherwise it will affect the lateral growth of the fruit stem. When bagging, be sure to remove the female flowers, otherwise the humidity in the bag will increase the risk of fruit disease. The rope of the special bag should be fixed to the handle of the melon to avoid moving the special bag as the gourd grows.

What kind of bags to use: gourds should be stored in high-quality plastic bags for preservation, sun protection, bacteria prevention, and insect prevention, and the bag diameter should be determined according to the maturity of the fruit of the selected variety.
