When does the southern osmanthus bloom? What are the differences between southern osmanthus and northern osmanthus?

When does the southern osmanthus bloom? What are the differences between southern osmanthus and northern osmanthus?

1. When does it bloom?

The overall climate in the south is warmer than that in the north. The temperature will rise faster after spring, which is more in line with the temperature conditions required for flowering, so it will bloom earlier. It usually blooms in August and the overall flowering period lasts until early October. However, it has many varieties, and some varieties can bloom in all seasons, such as Osmanthus fragrans. As long as you provide it with a suitable environment, it can bloom every two or three months.

2. Differences

There is not much difference between osmanthus in the south and the north. They look the same, and the difference mainly lies in their growth habits. The climate in the south is warmer, so the osmanthus planted there is not very cold-resistant, and the seedlings can also grow well. The northern regions are colder, especially in winter. Therefore, most of the seedlings planted are grafted seedlings, which are more cold-resistant and can safely survive the winter in the north.

3. Maintenance and management

Whether the osmanthus is planted in the south or the north, it must be provided with a moist and well-lit environment during maintenance. Water frequently, especially during the growing season, the soil should be moist, but not excessive. There is a lot of rain in the south, so it is necessary to drain water in time to avoid waterlogging. It needs more sunlight during the growing period. Only with sufficient light can it bloom as scheduled. Lack of light will cause yellowing leaves and will also affect flowering. In addition, the temperature in the north is low in winter, so you need to control the temperature to avoid frostbite.
