How many days does it take for corn to germinate?

Corn germination time

If corn is sown in summer, it will generally germinate in about 5-7 days. The sowing time in spring is slightly longer, and it generally takes about 7-10 days to germinate and emerge from the soil. Excessive dryness or high soil humidity will affect the emergence of corn seedlings. You should choose a suitable plot to sow corn.

Corn planting time and method

1. Sowing time: Corn sowing time is usually divided into spring and autumn. Spring sowing is generally from April to May, and autumn sowing is completed before mid-July. Therefore, corn is also divided into spring corn and autumn corn according to the planting time.

2. Site selection and land preparation: Corn is suitable for planting in fertile, loose, well-drained soil. Water the soil in advance, which is conducive to the rooting, germination and later growth of corn. It is advisable to dig holes in rows.

3. Seed selection and sowing: Choose high-quality corn seeds with intact, plump and fleshy grains that have not been damaged by insects. Keep the temperature at around 11°C during sowing. The spacing should be appropriate, with the distance between plants kept at around 30 cm. Sow 3-4 seeds in each hole.

How to manage corn after it emerges

1. Fertilization: After the corn seedlings emerge, topdressing should be carried out according to the seedling conditions, leaf color, basic fertilizer amount, etc. The three types of seedlings, namely, thin and weak seedlings, narrow and long leaves, and yellow leaves, should be pulled out in time, and seedling fertilizer should be applied as early as possible, and the amount of topdressing should be increased.

2. Watering: Corn seedlings have a greater demand for water, so water them in a timely manner. It is best to keep the soil basically moist, but water accumulation should be avoided. The roots are prone to rot in an environment with high moisture, so drain the water in a timely manner during the rainy season.

3. Pests: Pesticides need to be sprayed during the germination and seedling stages of corn to control pests. For example, white grubs can be controlled with DDT mixed with sand and soil. Sprinkle it evenly along the corn seedlings in the morning and maintain it at all stages.
