How to grow Christmas cactus

How to grow Christmas cactus

1. Soil

When breeding, use slightly acidic soil with good air permeability, and the soil should be loose and fertile. You can mix it yourself with coarse sand, rotten leaves and peat soil in the ratio of 1:1:1, or you can buy special nutrient soil in the market.

2. Temperature

It likes a warm environment, and it is best to provide a temperature between 18 and 23 degrees during maintenance. Special attention should be paid to the low temperature in winter, which should not be lower than 5 degrees, otherwise it will be frostbitten and unable to bloom and grow normally. In addition, you should also pay attention to avoid strong light during the high temperatures in summer and provide shade and cooling in time.

3. Watering

During the maintenance period, the number of watering should be controlled. Water should not be replenished too frequently, and water accumulation in the potting soil is strictly prohibited. The specific frequency varies according to the season. Autumn is the peak growing season, so add plenty of water, once every two or three days. Control water during the summer dormancy period, about once every half a month. In winter and spring, once a week or so is usually enough.

4. Fertilization

Its flowering period is relatively long and it requires a lot of nutrients to grow, so it is necessary to add fertilizer and nutrients in time. Fertilization is usually done in spring and autumn, and compound fertilizer can be used, once every ten days or so. In addition, it is important to stop fertilizing during the flowering and dormant periods to avoid fertilizer damage.
