Ginseng Home Planting Method

Ginseng Home Planting Method

Ginseng is a well-known and precious medicinal material with a history of more than 4,000 years of application. It is also widely planted and distributed in my country. In addition to planting it in the ground, it can actually be planted on the home balcony. So what are the methods for growing ginseng at home ? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Seed selection and germination

Select healthy and plump ginseng seeds and process them for germination. Soak the seeds in water, then mix them with fine sand, maintain appropriate humidity, and place them in a warm and humid place until they germinate.

2. Pot soil selection

For home potted ginseng, it is best to use a pot with a diameter of more than 20 cm and a height of more than 25 cm. 2-4 plants can be planted in each pot. The soil needs to be fertile, loose, well-drained, slightly acidic and rich in organic matter. You can choose soil based on a mixture of peat, leaf mold and sand. Before planting, you can add organic fertilizers such as leaf mold and well-rotted compost to improve soil fertility.

3. Planting time

For the convenience of management, it is best to pay attention to the choice of planting time. It is generally more appropriate to sow in mid-to-late April in spring or mid-to-late October in autumn.

4. Key points for sowing

Put a suitable layer of wet soil in the flowerpot, then put in the germinated seeds, and then slowly cover it with a layer of wet soil. After covering the soil, you can spray a little clean water on the soil surface to maintain the humidity of the soil surface. After planting, place it in a shaded place, avoiding direct sunlight.

5. Maintenance and management

Ginseng requires sufficient light, water and fertilizer during its growth. During the growth period, keep the potting soil moist and apply fertilizer regularly, mainly with decomposed organic fertilizer and appropriately supplement with compound fertilizer . During the high temperatures in summer, shade measures should be taken to prevent ginseng from sunburn.

6. Harvest and storage

It generally takes 3-6 years for ginseng to reach its optimal medicinal value. When harvesting, carefully dig out the whole ginseng plant, clean it, and then dry it naturally or in a dryer, avoiding direct sunlight to maintain the medicinal effects of ginseng.

In short, through the above steps and precautions, you can also successfully grow ginseng at home. But it should be noted that ginseng has a long growth cycle and requires patient and careful care and management.
