Method for raising seedlings of Magnolia grandiflora

Method for raising seedlings of Magnolia grandiflora

1. Seed processing

The seeds of white magnolia will mature in autumn. At this time, you can take out the seeds, soak them in warm water for a period of time, and rub off the outer skin. In order to improve the survival rate, the seeds can be germinated. Bury the seeds in sand, cover them with a layer of sand, then a layer of seeds, and then another layer of sand. Maintain a certain temperature and humidity, which can promote the growth of buds as soon as possible.

2. Prepare the soil

The choice of soil is also very important. First of all, it must maintain permeability and not be too sticky. It must also ensure nutrition and good drainage to provide a good foundation for growth. The soil must be acidic, and alkaline soil must not be used.

3. Seedling raising time

The time for seedling cultivation can be selected in autumn from August to September, or it can be stored in the spring of the following year and then sown and raised. Both time periods are suitable and can increase the chance of survival.

4. Seeding and Seedling Raising

Choose a suitable location and sow the seeds to a depth of about two centimeters. Cover them with a thin layer of soil. The soil layer should not be too thick to prevent the seeds from having difficulty growing. When the seedlings grow out, do not expose them to strong light at first. They can be gradually exposed to diffuse light. They can be transplanted 1-2 years after emerging from the soil.
