How to care for tiger skin plant in winter

How to care for tiger skin plant in winter

1. Cold and heat preservation

It is a thermophilic plant and the temperature is best controlled between 20-30 degrees. The temperature is lower in winter, so the first thing to pay attention to during maintenance is temperature control. It is best to maintain it above 10 degrees, and the minimum should be above 5 degrees, otherwise it is easy to cause frostbite.

2. Reduce watering

The temperature is low in winter, the growth rate is relatively slow, and the water evaporates slowly, so the frequency of watering should be reduced. It is a desert plant that is drought-tolerant but not water-tolerant. In winter, it is usually watered once every half a month, and the watering should not be thorough. Just moistening the surface of the soil is enough to meet the needs. Too much water can easily cause frostbite to the plants.

3. Stop fertilizer treatment

Winter is its dormant stage and no fertilizer is needed. If the applied fertilizer cannot be absorbed by the plant, it will easily cause fertilizer harm and damage the plant. It is recommended to apply it once before winter, using decomposed cake fertilizer water. In addition, the soil should be loosened frequently after application to help absorption and promote root development.

4. Get more sun

Sansevieria likes light, and the light in winter is very soft. It is recommended to place it in a bright place indoors, such as on a south windowsill, so that the light through the glass is not strong and it can get sun all day. This will encourage the leaves to photosynthesize better and accumulate more nutrients, which is beneficial for next year's growth and wintering.
