Tips for growing indoor flowers in winter

Temperature Control

In winter, even in a warm room, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature of flowers is high enough to avoid freezing. However, the higher the temperature is not necessarily better. Most flowers enter a dormant or semi-dormant state after winter. If the temperature is too high, they will have physiological activities and even leaf buds sprout, which will waste the stored energy and be detrimental to growth. Therefore, try not to keep the temperature higher than 20℃.

Secondly, the light intensity weakens in winter. In addition to effective frost prevention, flowers should be exposed to more sunlight to warm them up. Receiving more than 3 hours of sunlight every day is conducive to healthy growth in the coming year.

Proper fertilizer and water

Flowers grow slowly in winter, and some even go dormant, with poor ability to absorb nutrients.

If too much fertilizer is applied to flowers in winter, it will damage the root system, make them more sensitive to cold, and reduce the evaporation of water. Excessive watering will make the roots breathe poorly, which can easily cause root disease or even root rot and death.

Therefore, flowers need very little fertilizer and water in winter, just enough to maintain their lives.

Adjust humidity

The winter climate is dry, and the use of household air conditioners reduces air humidity, thus affecting the growth of flowers. In winter, the air humidity of jasmine, monstera, and cactus should not be lower than 50%, while plants such as spider plant, asparagus fern, and calamus require the air humidity to reach more than 60%. When the humidity is insufficient, the problem can be solved by spraying water mist.
