How to grow hibiscus in winter? Can it be pruned?

1. How to grow hibiscus in winter

1. Light: Hibiscus likes sunshine, especially the warm and soft light in winter. It must be exposed to more sunlight. If there is insufficient light, the buds will fall off and the flowers will not bloom.

2. Temperature: Hibiscus is afraid of freezing. After November every year, the hibiscus should be moved indoors for maintenance, and the maintenance temperature should be kept above 15°C, otherwise it will cause the hibiscus leaves to fall, which will affect the future growth, development and flowering of the plant.

3. Watering: Hibiscus likes loose, fertile and well-drained soil. On this basis, wait until the moisture in the soil is almost dry before watering it thoroughly. You can insert a wooden stick along the edge of the pot, pull it out and check it when you have nothing to do. If the stick is dry, water it.

4. Fertilization: The temperature is low in winter, so do not fertilize your domestic hibiscus to avoid fertilizer damage, unless you keep the hibiscus in a heated room in winter. You can water it with decomposed organic fertilizer every half a month. The lighter the concentration, the better.

2. Can hibiscus be pruned in winter?

Do not heavily prune hibiscus in winter, as heavy pruning is not conducive to the wintering of hibiscus. If there are dead flowers, you can lightly prune them, cut off the dead flowers and 1-2 pairs of leaves under the flowers, and wait until the temperature rises in spring before heavy pruning. When heavy pruning, just keep 2-3 buds on the old branches, which can promote the sprouting of new branches and make the hibiscus bloom more and larger flowers.
