Lily cultivation methods and precautions

Lily cultivation methods and precautions

1. Soil

The root system of lilies is relatively developed. To avoid affecting the roots' absorption of nutrients, choose a pot that is as large as possible and not too shallow. You can directly buy nutrient soil on the market, or you can mix garden soil, sandy soil, leaf mold and other proportions, and then add base fertilizer to make nutrient soil. Just change the pot and add fertilizer every other year. The soil should be acidic, especially calcareous soil should be avoided.

2. Moisture

The humidity should be kept at around 80% and should not fluctuate too much. Do not water too much, just keep the soil moist. There is more rain in the summer, so be careful not to allow water to accumulate to avoid root rot.

3. Temperature

It can grow normally at normal room temperature, and the temperature should be controlled between 16 and 23 degrees. The temperature in winter is too low, so it should be moved indoors for maintenance. The temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees. The maximum temperature in summer should not be higher than 30 degrees. Pay attention to ventilation. Too high or too low temperature will stop its growth. Growth will resume only when the temperature is above 10 degrees.

4. Lighting

Lilies prefer an environment with plenty of sunlight. Long-term shade will lead to poor differentiation of flower buds, affect flowering, and slow growth. Provide it with sufficient light every day. The midday sun in midsummer is too strong, so shade it to avoid burns caused by refraction of the sun.

5. Fertilization

The amount of fertilizer applied to lilies does not need to be too large. A thin layer of fertilizer is sufficient every two weeks to 20 days. The nutrient consumption during the flowering period is relatively high, so topdressing is needed to provide sufficient nutrients for flowering. You can choose fertilizers containing nitrogen and potassium.
