Differences between Taxus chinensis and Taxus chinensis

Differences between Taxus chinensis and Taxus chinensis

1. Variety

There are certain differences in the varieties of the two. It is humorous to say that the Southern is the mother of Mendia, because Mendia is a hybrid of it and the European yew. Judging from the growth height and some other aspects, the former is a shrub, while the latter is also a tree. Generally speaking, the former can be used to make bonsai with a long cycle and a relatively stable shape, while the latter has a relatively short cycle and requires frequent pruning.

2. Paclitaxel

The paclitaxel content of the two is quite different, the former is four to ten times that of the latter. Generally speaking, this substance in the latter is mainly concentrated in its bark, which means that the amount of this substance we can extract is very limited. However, the former contains this substance in every part of the plant. Not only is its content sufficient in the branches and leaves, but its content in the roots is even more astonishing. Because this substance is relatively valuable and has certain anti-cancer effects, many people prefer Menthol, and therefore its planting area is now greatly increasing.

3. Growth rate

The growth rates of the two are very different. The former grows very slowly, about ten centimeters a year, while the latter grows faster, about thirty to fifty centimeters a year. So if you want a fast-growing yew plant, you can choose the latter.

4. Cold resistance

Both are cold-resistant, but to different degrees. Generally speaking, the former can stay healthy at minus 25 degrees Celsius, while the latter can only withstand temperatures of minus 15 degrees Celsius. So overall, Mandiya can be considered high-end, but the latter also has its own advantages.
