How to grow orchids

How to grow orchids

1. Soil

It likes to grow in fertile, well-drained soil containing organic matter. When breeding, you can use leaf mold, vermiculite and then mix an appropriate amount of perlite to make soil. This will meet the growth needs and facilitate later growth.

2. Lighting

Orchids prefer shade and cannot tolerate strong light. It is best to place them on a windowsill with weak light. Pay attention to shading at noon, as strong light will burn the plants. However, the light in winter is mild, so you can give it full sunlight.

3. Temperature

It cannot tolerate high temperatures and cannot grow in low temperature environments. It prefers to grow at temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees. The temperature in summer should not exceed 30 degrees, and more water should be applied to cool it down. The temperature cannot be lower than 5 degrees in winter, otherwise you will get frostbite.

4. Watering

During the maintenance period, the soil in the pot should be kept moist. Usually, it should be watered every two days. In winter, water should be controlled and it is only necessary to water it once a week. When watering, pour it directly on the soil and not on the leaves, otherwise black spots will easily appear and affect the appearance.

5. Fertilization

The growth of orchids cannot be separated from fertilizers. Fertilizers should be applied frequently during the growth period, once every half a month. Only with sufficient nutrients can they grow more vigorously. But be careful to stop using fertilizers in summer.
