Cherry tree management techniques in July

Cherry tree management techniques in July

The temperature in July is relatively high. It is very hot and rainy. It is necessary to do a good job of managing the cherry trees to improve the quality and yield of cherries in the later stage. Here are some tips on how to manage cherry trees in July.

1. Pruning

Cherry tree pruning in July. Vigorous branches and overgrown branches should be pruned back, leaving only 10-15 cm at the base. This can promote the growth of new branches and ensure the differentiation of flower buds.

2. Water and fertilizer management

Mid-July is the time period when the mid-spring shoots are about to stop growing and the flower bud differentiation period comes. During this period, the nutrient roots and the absorption roots will grow synchronously, which is when the summer roots begin to grow wildly. Therefore, it is necessary to promptly supplement a large amount of water-soluble fertilizers with humic acid to increase plant power. Humic acid allows the root system to develop healthily. In this way, the cherry trees at all stages can achieve twice the result with half the effort by using fertilizers reasonably and scientifically at all times.

3. Spray foliar fertilizer

July is the peak growth period for trees, and in order to promote flower bud differentiation, foliar fertilizer needs to be sprayed to supplement nutrients.

4. Disease prevention

There are several common diseases of cherry trees, and prevention is essential in the summer. The first is brown spot disease, which often occurs after the cherries are picked . The leaves will be invaded by diseases due to rain and hot weather. After the cherries are picked, they must be sterilized with drugs. The fungicide should be sprayed with foliar fertilizer, such as potassium dihydrogen ions, peptides, etc.

There is also scab disease, so you should pay attention to ventilation, light transmission and smooth drainage. For chemical control, you can use 600 times of 80% mancozeb wettable powder or 1000 times of 70% methyl thiophanate wettable powder. Adding pesticide adjuvants (such as silicone) can improve the efficacy of the pesticide.

5. Pest prevention

In summer, in addition to diseases, cherry trees also need to pay attention to insect pests. The most common ones are fall moths and red spiders. When applying fungicides, you can directly add insecticides together. If you find fall moths, you can use chlorpyrifos or benzamide. If it is red spider mites, you can use avermectin, etc. These drugs can effectively prevent these pests. In very rare cases, you may encounter stubborn pests such as borers and longhorn beetles. This type of pest is more effectively prevented at an early stage.
