Fruit Tree Planting Guide in May

Fruit Tree Planting Guide in May

May is a critical period for the management and planting of various fruit trees, and is also the second flower and fruit management period. At this time, the temperature is higher and the rainfall is more, which is suitable for planting fruit trees. Let’s take a look at the fruit tree planting guide in May.

1. Selection of seedlings

Don't buy saplings that are too thick. The thicker the saplings, the faster they consume their own nutrients and water, and the more they consume, the lower their survival rate will be. At this time, it is better to buy small seedlings than thick large seedlings.

2. Planting

After the fruit tree seedlings are planted, pay attention to shading, otherwise the light will be too strong, causing water to be lost too quickly, and the seedlings will easily dry up and die. In the early stage, the focus is still on the growth and development of the root system. During this period, fertilizers such as compound fertilizers will not be used. When the root system is initially formed, it is basically autumn, and we start using compound fertilizers together with organic fertilizers . The ratio of compound fertilizer to organic fertilizer is 1 to 3. If organic fertilizer is not available, you can also use fermented farm manure.

3. Pruning

In addition to continuing to force branches to open the angles in orchards with small branching angles, it is also necessary to comprehensively use summer pruning measures such as pinching, twisting, ring cutting, bud removal, and removal of useless branches to reduce nutrient consumption. In mid-to-late May, for young trees that have not yet been branched, or fruit trees in the early fruiting stage that have not been branched out, the temperature can be pulled to 80-105 degrees. For the first fruiting trees, it is necessary to lightly pinch the new shoots in time, that is, to remove 1 cm from the top of the new shoots. This is conducive to the formation of medium and short branches and promote flowering. In addition to fruit-bearing trees, you can process the new shoots with strong growth vigor on the back, which is conducive to flowering and moderates the tree's vigor. Continue to thin out the excessive new shoots under the cut, on the back of the main branches, and the new shoots in the inner part that affect the light.

4. Planting grass and covering grass

The plants should be covered immediately after rainfall. Grass can be planted between the rows, mainly clover, with a sowing rate of about 0.1-0.25 kg per mu, in rows or broadcast, with a sowing depth of 1-2 cm. For dry land, choose mung beans, black beans, soybeans, etc.; for irrigated land, choose leguminous green manures such as hairy vetch and peas. Use straw, wheat straw (bran), etc. to cover the tree pit.

5. Pest and disease control

The main diseases include powdery mildew, rust, brown spot, anthracnose, ring rot, and leaf spot disease; the main insect pests include leaf roller, leaf miner, aphids, apple aphid, red spider, etc. In terms of prevention and control, in addition to manually cutting off powdery mildew shoots and burying them deep or taking them out of the garden for destruction, we should also pay attention to the extent of the occurrence of pests and diseases, hang yellow sticky insect boards and pest traps, check solar black light equipment, etc., and control pests through physical measures. If necessary, carry out chemical control.
