How to preserve hyacinth bulbs after flowering

How to preserve hyacinth bulbs after flowering

Storage method

Digging Ball

Water the plant appropriately before and after digging the bulbs to keep the soil in the pot relatively moist to facilitate taking out the bulbs. After taking out the ball, remove excess soil, remove old rhizomes, and place in a cool place for a few days.

disinfect

Disinfection is a necessary step before bagging and storage. There will be a large number of bacteria growing in humus soil for a long time. Soak them in carbendazim solution for 40 minutes, take them out and dry them naturally.

Hang or refrigerate

After disinfection and drying, the bulbs should be directly bagged and hung in a cool place. Be careful not to damage the bulb epidermis and check them once a week. Or simply wrap the bulbs in newspaper and place them in the refrigerator.

Precautions

The bulbs are usually dug out and stored in June, and the temperature when hung in a cool place is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius. Of course, the temperature is higher in summer, so as long as they are placed in a cool place with proper ventilation, there should be no problem. Many flower lovers will also choose to refrigerate the flowers. The purpose of refrigeration is to promote flowering. Please note that the flowers cannot be refrigerated immediately after being collected in June. After two months of storage at room temperature, they should be placed in the refrigerator in August and the temperature should be controlled at 2~5 degrees.

When handling the bulbs, be careful not to damage the root system as this will affect their regrowth.
