What are the methods of raising pigs in rural areas?

Every household in the rural area raises pigs. On the one hand, they can eat them themselves, and on the other hand, they can sell them. However, there are many models of pig farming. So what are the specific methods of raising pigs in rural areas ? Let’s learn more about it below.

1. Grazing

Generally, piglets start to roam out with their sows 15 to 20 days after birth, and are grazed with the group after weaning. When grazing, they can gnaw grass, dig grass roots and tubers for food. Before going out to graze or when returning to grazing, they can be supplemented with food once, or twice. In addition to collecting large amounts of wild vegetables and green fodder, you can also feed potatoes, melons, and mix in a small amount of corn, bean bran, etc.

2. Farming

Generally speaking, after 5-6 months of fattening, the weight of foreign high-quality pigs can reach about 250 kilograms. The biggest advantage of this method is that the fattening period is relatively short, the market is quick, and the feed return is high. The one-stop fattening method requires that the pig breeds be early-maturing and easy to fatten, and mainly uses foreign excellent breeds and local hybrid pigs for fattening. Local hybrid pigs are used for fattening. Generally, in the first six months or so, they gain about 8 taels of weight every day, and in the last month or so, they gain more than one kilogram of weight every day.

3. Fattening pig farming

This is a common model for many individual investors. They can directly purchase piglets for fattening, and then market them when they reach a certain weight. The advantages are that it is simple to raise, the technical requirements are not high, the space required is very small, the production efficiency is fast, and it can be raised multiple times a year.

4. Comprehensive feeding

Integrated breeding is also known as the self-breeding and self-feeding model, which is generally chosen for large-scale breeding. The general process is to purchase sows for breeding, and then raise and fatten the piglets after they are born. This model has high returns, stable investment, and a perfect scale, and reduces the risk of external pig diseases.

5. Welfare pig farming model

The main method is scientific design of pig houses, reasonable temperature control, and effective pollution control. It is a comprehensive breeding technology that can effectively solve the three major problems of large temperature difference, heavy pollution, and strong odor in large-scale pig breeding. It can effectively improve the pig breeding environment and public health conditions, that is, create a welfare growth environment for pigs. This model cannot be implemented in rural areas for a while.
