When and how to plant windbreaks

Windbreak Planting Time

Fangfeng is suitable for sowing in spring and autumn. If planted in spring, it is usually planted in late March to mid-April in the Yangtze River Basin and in early to mid-April in North China. If planted in autumn, it is usually planted in September-October in the Yangtze River Basin and before the ground freezes in North China.

Windbreak planting method

1. Site selection and land preparation

Saposhnikovia is a deep-rooted plant that has certain requirements for the soil. It is suitable for planting in sandy loam with high and dry terrain and good drainage. The soil should be renovated in advance and sufficient base fertilizer should be applied when preparing the land to improve the soil fertility, and then deep plowing and fine harrowing should be done.

2. Planting

Soak the seeds of windproof in warm water for one day in advance to allow them to fully absorb water to facilitate germination. Dig furrows and sow in rows with a row spacing of 30 to 40 cm on the prepared soil, with a depth of about 2 cm. Sow the seeds evenly in the furrows, cover them with a layer of soil, compact it, cover it with grass and water it to keep the soil moist. Seedlings will emerge 20 to 25 days after sowing.

Precautions for windbreak planting

When the height of the windbreak seedlings is about 5 cm, thinning should be carried out. When they grow to 10 to 13 cm, the seedlings should be fixed at a spacing of 13 to 16 cm. Weeding should be done in time in June to reduce nutrient consumption. Diseased and insect-infested branches and leaves should also be pruned to increase ventilation and reduce the occurrence of diseases.
