The propagation method of elmleaf plum: division method

The most common method of propagation for Prunus armeniaca is division.

The best way to propagate Prunus armeniaca is by division in autumn and spring after the soil thaws and before the plants germinate.

Separate the branches with roots from the base of the Prunus armeniaca clump, or dig out the entire mother plant and divide it into several clumps, each with 3 to 5 branches, and then plant them.

Before planting, some branches should be cut off to reduce water evaporation, so that the newly sprouted branches will be thick and healthy, thereby improving the planting survival rate.

Propagation method of elmleaf plum: sowing method

The sowing method is generally to harvest the fruits of the elmleaf plum after they are ripe in July, remove the pulp, clean them, and layer them with wet sand. Then sow them in autumn or early spring.

The propagation method of elmleaf plum: layering method

Select strong branches of Prunus armeniaca, and peel off a circle of bark about 15-30 centimeters below the top. The width of the wound should be about one centimeter, and the depth should be just enough to peel off the epidermis.

Cut a piece of plastic film 10-20 cm long and 5-8 cm wide, put some wet garden soil on it, and wrap the ringed area like wrapping a wound. Tie the upper and lower ends of the film tightly and bulge in the middle.

It will take about four to six weeks for the plant to take root. After taking root, cut off the branches and roots together to form a new plant, which can then be transplanted into a pot.

Precautions for propagation of elmleaf plum

After breeding, the temperature should be maintained at 20℃-30℃ and the relative humidity of the air should be maintained at 75%-85%.

After breeding, spray the surrounding area frequently or spray the plants. When the temperature is high on sunny days, increase the number of spraying appropriately. On rainy days, the lower the temperature, the less or no spraying should be done.
