How to build a trellis and how to pull climbing roses

1. Preparation

Before setting up the trellis for climbing roses, preparation work must be done. Climbing roses need some support to climb up, such as walls, wooden fences, etc., and you also need to prepare ropes or wires to tie the branches.

2. Pruning

Before setting up the trellis, the plants need to be pruned, and the degree of pruning should be different for branches at different growth times. For newly flowering branches, first prune the strong flowering branches appropriately, leaving 2-3 buds on the branches. For the newly grown branches that have not yet bloomed, the top section of the branch should be cut off. For old branches that have been flowering for two years, the old branches other than the new branches should be cut off so that the new branches can gradually replace the old branches. Older branches must be pruned back.

3. Correct traction

Observe the growth of the entire plant, understand the growth direction and number of branches, and then plan the traction direction of the branches reasonably. Set up the support, pull the long branches onto it, and pull the short branches underneath, trying to pull and fix them in the direction of their own growth and extension.

4. Fix the branches

Fix the pulled branches on the support. After fixing, observe the direction and layout of the entire branch. If it is not appropriate, loosen it and adjust it appropriately.
