Learn how to divide plants, so that your flowers can become 2 from 1, and 4 from 2

Division propagation

When the plant grows up, has sufficient nutrition and suitable environmental conditions, it will sprout side buds from the roots. They are not easy to be found at first. When it quietly grows new leaves, you will be surprised to find that the plant has secretly given birth to a baby for you, and has given birth to more than one.

But what should we do at this time? Should I just break it off directly? Or should I wait until it grows a little bigger before breaking it off? Will the seedlings that are broken off be too fragile to survive?

Today, I will teach you the necessary skills for growing flowers - the division method

The season of division

Depending on the type of flowers, those that bloom in spring should be divided in autumn, while those that bloom in autumn should be divided in spring. It can usually be done at the same time as repotting.

Preparation before operation

Control watering before dividing the plants, allow the soil in the pot to dry appropriately, and make the roots turn white. This will make the fleshy roots that are originally brittle and easily broken become soft, so that the roots will not be damaged too much when dividing the plants and cutting the pots.

Specific steps

First, take the plant out of the pot, shake off the old soil, carefully observe the growth direction of the roots, and then separate them from the gaps with your hands or cut them with a sharp knife according to their natural extension intervals. Place them in a cool place and wait for the wound to heal.

After separation, timely pruning is required to remove rotten roots. The cut surface can be disinfected with charcoal powder or sulfur powder before transplanting.

Maintenance after division

After the separated plants are potted, water them thoroughly and place them in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance. Don't expose it to direct sunlight or apply fertilizer yet. Slowly start exposing it to sunlight after a week.
