How to grow gladiolus

How to grow gladiolus

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: To grow gladiolus, you need loose, breathable, slightly acidic soil.

2. Watering: When watering gladiolus, you must control the amount of water. If the amount of water is too much, it will cause root rot. If the amount of water is too little, it will cause water shortage and lead to wilting. It is best to stop watering during the flowering period, which can effectively prolong the flowering period.

3. Temperature: It needs a growing environment of 20-35℃, and the maximum temperature cannot be higher than 35℃. It is not cold-resistant, so it should be placed indoors after entering winter, and the temperature should be adjusted in time to avoid frost damage.

4. Light: Gladiolus needs sufficient light to grow. It is best to give it more than 14 hours of light a day. Only in this way can the flower buds differentiate.

2. Breeding Methods

Seed propagation: After collecting the seeds in autumn, they should be sown, so that the germination rate will be very high. Place them in the greenhouse over the winter, and then plant them in the open field in the second year. The plants will bloom in summer. You can also sow the seeds the following year after collecting them.

3. Common diseases

Common diseases include damping-off, sclerotinia, and hardening disease. After the onset of the disease, it is necessary to spray the plants with medicine in time to avoid serious disease and death of the plants.
