How to distinguish between Gaillardia and perennial Gaillardia?

How to distinguish between Gaillardia and perennial Gaillardia?

one. Distinguish by appearance features

Both Gaillardia and Perennial Gaillardia belong to the Herbaceous Family, but the difference is that Gaillardia is an annual while Perennial Gaillardia is a perennial. The height of the cosmos is between 20 and 60 cm. The perennial cosmos is obviously taller than the cosmos, and its height is between 60 and 100 cm. The flower stems of Gaillardia have many branches, and the branches and leaves are obliquely long and covered with short soft or rusty hairs. The diameter of the Gaillardia flower is about five centimeters. The bracts of the flower are lanceolate and there are glandular dots on the back of the flower. The ligulate flowers are broad wedge-shaped yellow in color, with two to three lobes at the top. The flowering period of Gaillardia is from June to August every year. The whole plant of perennial cosmos is covered with coarse hairs, the branches are not separated and the leaves are oval. Its flower diameter is between five and seven centimeters. Its bracts are lanceolate like those of Gaillardia, and also have glandular dots. The color of the ligulate flowers is also yellow like Gaillardia, but the flowering and fruiting period of perennial Gaillardia is from July to August each year, which is one month later than Gaillardia.

two. Differentiation from environmental adaptation

Chrysanthemums are plants with relatively strong vitality. Similarly, cosmos are plants that can tolerate dryness and heat, but not cold. Gaillardia prefers more sunlight, but can also grow in a semi-shady environment. It is more wind-resistant and can grow in a humid environment. However, the soil for growing cosmos cannot be acidic. The habits of perennial cosmos are slightly different from those of cosmos. Perennial cosmos also likes places with plenty of sunlight, but cannot tolerate humidity.

three. According to the breeding method

The most widely used propagation methods for Gaillardia are sowing and cuttings. These two methods can easily make Gaillardia reproduce and grow. There are three methods of propagation for perennial cosmos, which has one more method than cosmos, namely, division propagation. These methods can also propagate perennial cosmos very well, and the growth rate is relatively high.

Both cosmos and perennial cosmos can be grown in flower beds and are great flowers for decorating cities.
