How to Overwinter Chrysanthemums Indoors

How to Overwinter Chrysanthemums Indoors

Perennial root preservation method

After the potted chrysanthemums fade, cut off the old stems, water them thoroughly, and then move them to a sunny room where the room temperature can reach 0-3 degrees. In terms of management, watering must be strictly controlled. Do not water unless the soil in the pot is dry. When watering, the amount should be small to keep the soil in the pot slightly moist. At the same time, prevent the soil in the pot from freezing. When the weather gradually warms up in the spring of the second year, gradually increase the amount of watering, and then move it to a sunny place outdoors and take good care of it. After the plant sprouts new buds, it can be propagated by division, cuttings, etc.

Bud storage method

In late autumn and early winter, choose the first generation of new shoots that sprout from the roots of chrysanthemum plants for cuttings. During the operation, use a knife to dig 2 cm into the soil, cut the rhizomes with new shoots, dig them out with the soil, and plant them in the prepared pot. The potting soil should be composed of half culture soil and half sandy soil. Then move the pot indoors, keep the temperature at around 3 degrees, water less, and keep the potting soil slightly moist. It is worth noting that the room temperature cannot be too high, nor can the plants be allowed to freeze to death. In mid-March of the following year, move it outdoors to a sunny place sheltered from the wind.
