How to grow a small potted fortune tree

How to grow a small potted fortune tree

1. Choice of container and potting soil

Because the money tree is a plant that needs water but is afraid of too much water, it is best to choose a flower pot with good air permeability and water permeability, such as a ceramic pot. It is best not to choose a porcelain pot, which is not air permeable and water-tight, and can easily cause root rot; the potting soil can be leaf mold, plus some human manure or chicken manure fertilizer, you can also use fertilizer water made from bean dregs, etc. The money tree likes fertilizer, so the fertilizer of the potting soil must keep up.

2. Lighting

The money tree originally grows in the tropics and is adapted to the hot tropical weather. The same applies when placing it in a small pot. To satisfy the money tree's need for sunlight, place it in a sunny place with its leaves facing the sunlight. Otherwise, the entire branch and leaves will twist so that the leaves grow towards the sunlight, and the money tree will grow "crookedly". Of course, when the money tree is basking in the sun, sprinkling it with some water can make its branches and leaves more beautiful.

3. Watering

Whether the money tree grows in the soil or in a pot, it needs a lot of water. However, potted plants have a disadvantage, which is that if you water them too much at one time, the flowerpots have poor water infiltration function, causing water accumulation, which may cause the roots of the plants to rot and die; if you water them too little, the branches and leaves will stop growing, so you have to control the amount of water. When watering potted plants, you should grasp the "two more and two less": water more in hot summer and less in cold winter. Water more during the critical growth period and less in newly potted plants.

4. Fertilization

The money tree originally grows in places with fertile soil, so the potting soil must also be rich in fertilizer. In the composition of potting soil, fertilizer soil accounts for at least 1/3. Fertilizer soil can be made from many materials, such as fallen leaf humus, chicken manure fertilizer, or bean cake residue fertilizer. In addition, between May and September, fertilizer should be applied every half a month, because this is the critical period for the growth of the money tree. Only if fertilizer is applied regularly can the plant grow deep roots and lush leaves.
