How to grow Areca palm

How to grow Areca palm

1. Breeding environment

(1) Soil: The main requirements are good drainage, looseness and air permeability, and rich in humus. You can mix leaf mold and peat soil and add a small pile of river sand and perlite. If conditions permit, a small amount of basal fertilizer can be added.

(2) Temperature: The plant prefers warmth, preferably between 20 and 35 degrees. It is not cold-resistant and will be damaged by frost if the temperature drops below five degrees. In order to ensure normal growth in the second year, the winter temperature should be above ten degrees.

(3) Light: It prefers scattered light and cannot be exposed to direct light. For daily maintenance, it is best to use scattered light, and move it in time when encountering strong light.

(4) Watering: Water the plants according to the weather. Water more on hot days and less on rainy days. You can also adjust the amount according to the season. In addition to watering, you also need to sprinkle water in the summer; in the winter, you need to water less.

(5) Fertilization: The fastest growth period is in May and June. Fertilizer and water should be applied every one to two weeks. Compound fertilizer can be used. In addition, organic fertilizer containing nitrogen can be applied in summer.

2. Repotting

The plant needs to be repotted every two to three years, and the soil can be prepared according to the previous requirements. In addition to the soil, the pot can also be changed, preferably a clay pot or a glazed pot.

3. Pest control

Areca palm is easily affected by pests, such as red spider mites and whiteflies. It is necessary to spray with 40% concentration of oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate, and both the leaves and roots should be sprayed. At the same time, pay attention to ventilation.
