How to grow azalea in the north, the secret of growing azalea in the north

How to grow azalea in the north, the secret of growing azalea in the north

1. Pot soil preparation

Rhododendrons are more suitable for growing in acidic soil, while the soil in the north is mostly alkaline, so the potting soil needs to be prepared. It is usually mixed with leaf mold, sandy soil, etc., and a certain amount of cake fertilizer can be added as base fertilizer. Be sure to stir evenly before planting, and change the pot and soil every spring.

2. Water acidification

Azaleas cannot be watered with tap water because tap water contains chlorine and is alkaline. It needs to be left to stand for a few days before use. You can add a few drops of white vinegar to the water, or use ferrous sulfate to acidify it. Acidic water irrigation is more conducive to its growth and can also improve soil quality.

3. Increase humidity

Rhododendrons prefer a humid environment, and the air in the north is drier. You can spray water on its leaves or sprinkle water on the ground every day, which can increase the humidity of the air. A humidifier can be used for indoor farming, which can also effectively increase the humidity.

4. Increase the temperature

The temperature for azalea to overwinter cannot be lower than 5℃. In the north, it can be placed in a heated place indoors in winter. But don't place azaleas too close to heaters. High temperature baking will also cause damage to it, so you need to keep a certain distance. At the same time, regular ventilation is required to avoid various diseases caused by poor air circulation.
