How to Propagate Lavender

How to Propagate Lavender

1. Cutting propagation

Cutting is one of the commonly used propagation methods for lavender, and it is also more suitable for propagation using this method. The time for breeding is generally spring or autumn. First, select a mother plant in good health, then choose the semi-lignified flower branches of the current year, cut them with sterilized tools, and cut them into a length of about 8-10cm, then remove the leaves below them.

Then, insert it into the sterilized, loose, breathable culture soil, being careful not to insert it too deep. After planting, you need to water it thoroughly to ensure that the soil is moist, and finally cover it with a layer of film to keep it moist. After cuttings, you need to maintain a certain humidity and temperature, and after about 10 days, it will take root.

2. Seed propagation

Seeding is also one of its available propagation methods. The time for sowing is generally spring or autumn.

Before sowing, you need to prepare loose and breathable culture soil and spray water appropriately to ensure humidity. Then spread the seeds evenly on the surface of the culture soil. Note that the seeds need to be spread evenly and the spacing between seeds cannot be too large or too small. If it is too large, the distance between plants will be too large after they grow out, which will not only affect the appearance but also waste soil resources; if it is too small, the plants will compete for resources such as soil and light, causing poor growth.

After sowing the seeds, you need to cover them with a thin layer of soil and then spray water to increase moisture. In about a week, small sprouts will begin to grow.
