The growth environment and conditions of the sycamore tree

The Chinese sycamore tree is a light-loving plant, suitable for planting in fertile, moist, well-drained sandy loam. It likes alkali and cannot tolerate waterlogging environment. If it is waterlogged for 3-5 days during the growing season, its roots will rot and die. It has weak germination ability and is generally not suitable for pruning. The Chinese sycamore is mainly produced in Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Guangdong, Nanjing, Hubei and other provinces, and most of them are artificially cultivated.

Sycamore Tree Growing Conditions

The seeds of the sycamore tree can be fried and pressed for oil. They have strong resistance to toxic gases and are commonly found on village roadsides, next to houses, hillsides, limestone slopes, etc. They prefer warm, humid and sunny environments, are relatively drought-resistant, have a wide adaptability to soil, are resistant to drought and barrenness, and grow better on sandy soil.

Sycamore tree growth temperature

The sycamore tree prefers a warm environment, with a suitable growth temperature of around 25 degrees Celsius. It is very cold-resistant and can overwinter outdoors in the south during the winter. In the extremely cold regions of the north, good warming measures should be taken.

When and how to plant a sycamore tree

1. The sycamore tree is suitable for planting in spring and autumn. The commonly used propagation methods include sowing, cuttings, and root division. The fruits should be harvested in time after they mature in autumn, dried in the shade and sown in the autumn of the same year, or placed in sand and sown in the spring of the following year.

2. If the sycamore trees are sown in rows, the row spacing should be 20-25 cm, the covering soil thickness should be about 1 cm, and the sowing amount per mu should be about 15 kg. The sand-stored seeds will germinate more evenly and can germinate 30 days after sowing. The dry-stored seeds often germinate unevenly and need to be soaked in warm water in advance to germinate.

3. Under normal management, the height of the sycamore seedlings can reach 50-60 cm in the current year. They can be transplanted and cultivated the following year. They can be transplanted after 3 years of maintenance. Choose a high and dry place with sunny weather for planting. Apply basal fertilizer in the hole. Pay attention to the need to prevent and control sycamore psyllids, frost moths, caterpillars and other pests in time during the growth period. Petroleum emulsions, DDT, Dimethoate, and methyl parathion can be used for prevention and control.
