Broad bean planting time and method

Broad bean planting time

Broad beans are usually planted in spring and autumn. If in the northern region, it is recommended to choose March and April in spring, when the temperature is basically stable and they can grow better after planting. If in the southern region, it is recommended to choose between October and November in autumn, and it is best to complete the sowing in early November to avoid low temperatures in winter that hinder the germination of seedlings.

Broad bean planting method

1. Variety selection

Generally speaking, you should choose plump, disease-free seeds. In areas with fertile soil, you can choose fertilizer-tolerant and lodging-resistant varieties, which are beneficial to the growth of broad beans. In areas with poor soil, choose varieties with wide adaptability, resistance to barrenness and stable yields.

2. Seed treatment

Broad bean seeds need to be processed before sowing. The seeds can be placed in the sun for 2-3 days before sowing to increase the germination rate, and then soaked in warm water. After the seeds become soft, they can be sown in the soil.

3. Land preparation and sowing

Plow the selected soil, dig trenches and open up moisture. The trenches should be connected and the moisture surface should not be too wide. Then apply some fine manure to ensure germination. After sowing the seeds, cover them with a layer of fine soil, then water them once and cover them with straw to maintain temperature and humidity.

Notes on broad bean planting

During the growth period of broad beans, it is necessary to do a good job in disease and pest prevention and control, timely prune diseased plants, remove weeds, destroy them in a centralized manner, spray pesticides for disease, insect and rodent control, control watering to avoid water accumulation, and increase ventilation in the environment.
