Methods and precautions for cutting propagation of Hoya

How to propagate Hoya

Hoya is also called Monkey King. It is generally propagated by cuttings and layering. The most common method is cuttings because it is simple and easy to grow. Cuttings are usually carried out in summer. When carrying out cuttings, the branches must be disinfected.

How to propagate Hoya by cuttings

Except for winter and early spring, cuttings can be taken at other times. As long as the temperature is not too cold, it will not affect the rooting of the cuttings. The specific cutting propagation method is as follows:

1. Hoya needs to use leaf mold, vermiculite and perlite, mixed evenly in a ratio of 6:2:2, as the cutting medium for Hoya.

2. Then use sterilized scissors to cut 8-10 cm branches from the mother plant of Hoya. Semi-mature branches or top branches after flowering are the best.

3. Cut off the leaves on the branches, keep 3-5 tender leaves, and cut off 1/2 of the leaves. Cut the bottom of the branches into bevels, wash them with disinfectant solution, and place them in a cool place to dry.

4. Fill the prepared flowerpot with culture soil, smooth the soil, insert the ball orchid cuttings into the hole, and compact the surrounding soil.

Precautions for Hoya cuttings

Before taking cuttings of Hoya, you need to determine the temperature at home. The suitable temperature for Hoya is between 20-25 degrees Celsius. If there is no heating in the north and the temperature does not reach 20 degrees, it is recommended to wait and turn on the heating before taking cuttings.
