Red-heart pitaya is a tropical and subtropical fruit. It likes light and is shade-tolerant, heat-tolerant and drought-tolerant, and it likes fertilizer and is tolerant to barrenness. It has high requirements for light and grows rapidly in a warm, humid and sunny environment. If the light intensity is insufficient, it will affect its normal flowering.

Red pitaya planting climate

Red-heart pitaya is not resistant to low temperatures, but can withstand high temperatures of 40°C. The suitable growth temperature is 25-35°C. Red-heart pitaya can adapt to a variety of soils, but it is best planted in neutral soil and weakly acidic soil that is rich in humus and retains water and fertilizer. It is suitable for planting in tropical and subtropical climates.

Red pitaya planting area

Red-fleshed pitaya can only be grown in areas of my country with a relatively hot climate. It has a wide adaptability to soil and can be cultivated on plains, paddy fields, hillsides or dry land. It grows better in fertile, well-drained, neutral or slightly acidic sandy red soil or loam.

Red-fleshed pitaya is not frost-resistant, and if the temperature is below 0 degrees, you need to take measures to keep warm. It is native to Costa Rica, Guatemala and other places in Central America, and is distributed in Hainan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian and Yunnan in China.

Planting time of red dragon fruit

Red-heart pitaya can be planted at any time, but the most suitable season for planting is spring, specifically from March to April. Because red-heart pitaya is a tropical fruit, the temperature needs to be above 18 degrees before sowing. When it is above 40 degrees, it will damage the fruit trees. Therefore, spring is the most suitable season and it can be harvested in summer, which will not cause a reduction in production.

The benefits of planting red pitaya

Red-heart pitaya grows rapidly, growing about 2 centimeters a day and also growing more side branches. It needs to be pruned in time to reduce nutrient consumption, which can increase yield. Its economic benefits are considerable, with a yield of 5,000 catties per mu and a picking price of 15 yuan per catty. The annual income per mu is 25,000 yuan, and three mu of greenhouse red-heart pitaya can bring in 75,000 yuan in income.
