How to grow Dendrobium at home

How to grow Dendrobium at home

1. Planting time

There are not many restrictions on the time when growing Dendrobium at home, but the suitable temperature for Dendrobium growth is around 25-30 degrees Celsius, so it is best to choose spring and autumn. It is also possible in other seasons and can survive, but you must pay attention to maintaining the surrounding environment.

2. Prepare the flower pot

Dendrobium has high requirements for air permeability and drainage, so you can choose a flowerpot with good air permeability. The material can be a clay pot, which can ensure normal drainage of water. It does not need to be too large and can match the size of the plant, with a diameter of about 20 cm.

3. Prepare the matrix

The culture medium inside needs to be reasonably matched. Large stones can be used at the bottom to facilitate the drainage of water and allow air permeability. Small stones or expanded clay can be used in the middle layer to ensure normal breathing of the roots and rhizomes and avoid suffocation. The top layer can be made of softer material, and fermented pine bark is a good choice.

4. Planting in pots

When it is ready, you can plant it, bury the seedlings in it, and cover most of the roots with the substrate. Water thoroughly immediately after planting, then apply fertilizer, sprinkle special fertilizer next to the roots, cover it with a layer of bark, and finally place it in a well-ventilated semi-shaded environment.
