How many years does it take for pineapple to bear fruit?

Introduction to Pineapple Planting

Pineapples are originally distributed in the tropical high temperature and arid areas of South America. They like warm environments and grow best at an annual average temperature of 24-27 degrees. They can grow at a temperature of 15-40 degrees. The winter temperature must not be lower than 5 degrees, otherwise they will be damaged by frost.

The lifespan of pineapple is very long. It is neither an annual plant nor a biennial plant, but a perennial plant. Generally, its lifespan is about ten years or even more than ten years. Pineapple is widely grown in tropical areas and is one of the four famous fruits of Lingnan. Common pineapple varieties include Caine, Queen, Spanish and hybrid types.

Pineapple planting results

Generally speaking, pineapples can bear fruit after 3-4 years of care, and the fruit will mature around April to May. Some varieties will mature in June to July, and a few varieties will mature from October to January of the following year.

In order for the pineapple to bloom and bear fruit better, it needs to be placed under mild sunlight for maintenance, and needs to be watered and fertilized in time. And if the branches and leaves of the pineapple are too long, they need to be properly pruned so that it can be cultivated for a longer time.

Why doesn't the pineapple bear fruit?

If the pineapple is not artificially pollinated, it is difficult to bear fruit. In addition, if there is rainy or low temperature weather during the flower bud differentiation period, it will affect the pollination, resulting in few or even no fruits. If drainage measures are not properly taken during the rainy season and excessive nitrogen fertilizer is applied, it will also affect the fruiting.

Key points for pineapple planting

When planting pineapples, you must choose a good site, plant it in a north-south facing place with plenty of sunshine, abundant water resources and convenient transportation. Renovate the soil in advance, apply base fertilizer to improve soil fertility, and strengthen fertilizer and water management. Apply bud-promoting fertilizer before buds emerge from December to February of the following year, apply bud-strengthening fertilizer after fruit harvesting in July-August, and apply fruit-strengthening fertilizer between the bud-promoting fertilizer and the bud-strengthening fertilizer.
